A group of concerned citizens from Yorkshire estimate that they destroyed about 20 GE potato trials on the west Yorkshire / North Yorkshire border on the 22nd July.

The potatoes were believed to be part of a series of trials consisting of over 40 different experiments being carried out by Leeds University (license no 98/R31/1). "As information on exact locations of GE tests seems to have been withdrawn, the team cannot, therefore, be absolutely sure that the crop was indeed GM.""

The potatoes were clearly part of a University test marked out in small sections, so it leaves us in little doubt. The fact that the precise locations have been made secret is an affront to the concerned public", said a spokesperson for the group, Mr Kilminster. The potatoes in these trials contained genes from with chickens, jellyfish, sunflowers, viruses and bacteria.
