FRANK
ZAPPA, THE STRICTLY GENTEEL GENIUS RIDES AGAIN
This book investigates and evaluates the career and music
of Frank Zappa. When David Jacobs turned to the camera on Juke Box Jury
and said "We should stamp out this kind of music" the youth of the 1960s
knew that this was something special and innovative. Frank re-invented
himself many times during his career, his love of serious music emerging
ever powerful as he grew older; much of his later work was composed on
the synclavier. Frank first played drums then moved to guitar, purchased
a recording studio and produced pop songs for the surf craze. The Muthers
changed into The Mothers of Invention and shook the world of music. This
book reviews every track on all the officially released albums and includes
chapters on the composers and writers who are known to have influenced
Frank. The many musicians and their recording before and after their terms
with Frank Zappa are also detailed. Frank Zappa is one of the foremost
musicians of the 20th century, his music will last forever.

THE
ADVENTURES OF MICHAEL BLOOMFIELD & AL KOOPER
Michael Bloomfield met Al Kooper at a recording session
for Bob Dylan's 'Highway 61 Revisted' album. Mike was one of the greatest
blues guitarists ever, he and Al recorded the 'Supersession' album together
which has subsequently sold a million copies. Al had previously played with
The Blues Project with Steve Katz and together they formed Blood Sweat and
Tears. Michael paid his dues sitting in at sessions with the black bluesmen
of Chicago's South-Side before joining The Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
Michael then formed The Electric Flag with Nick Gravenites. After Al Kooper
left BS&T, David Clayton Thomas became the lead vocalist. The stories of
Mike, Al, Paul and David are entangled. Paul and Mike became casualties
of The Blues, Al and David continue to have busy careers. This book covers
the musical output of these four consummate musicians and other band members
they encountered along the way. Many of the albums that were recorded, or
produced, by these men have remained unavailable for many years. At some
time in their individual careers all four men moved towards rock 'n' roll
and pop music, but it was The Blues that brought them all together.

PHIL
LYNOTT, THIN LIZZY ROCKIN' VAGABOND
This is the story of
Phil Lynott. It is not just a biography it is an investigation into the
words and music of the man.
Born illegitimate in Birmingham in 1949, he was raised in Ireland where
he joined a pop band named The Black Eagles. Phil Lynott was different
he was a half-caste born of an Irish mother and a black American father.
Phil learned to cope with being different and adjusted to his surroundings
and attitudes.
He travelled to London with the first line-up of Thin Lizzy and by a stroke
of luck met John Peel the top underground disk jockey on the ferry across
the Irish Sea.
This book examines the lyrics and poems of Phil Lynott and attempts to
locate influences. Phil wanted to mix heavy rock with quality songs and
lyrics in the manner of many of his predecessors such as Bob Dylan and
The Beatles. He succeeded but never reached the pinnacle of the UK pop
charts.
Phil Lynott died in Salisbury, Wiltshire in 1986 but the music lives on.
In his latter years he had turned his attention from drink to drugs losing
most of his long time friends as the drugs changed his personality. Phil
deserves to be remembered as one of the great innovators of rock and although
the claim that he was the first great Irish rock star may be a misnomer,
his heart was never far from Ireland.
